We had a great trip to a cultural center with the kids!
In this Mijikenda village, the children were shown different activities like cooking, playing instruments and how to grind cereal.
The children were puzzled by this scare crow on a Mijikenda farm.
This is the Luo village where they were shown a musical instrument called the nyatiti.
The children enjoyed stories told by this Masai Moran about his culture.
The children loved the trip and want to go again next week!
Since we have water at Cecil Kids, many people from the neighbourhood buy their water at our school. We make a profit of about 200 shillings (2 euro) per day. This is of great help to us. We use it to buy food for the children and to give them a healthy lunch every day.
We have finished building a wall around Cecil Kids. This keeps the school, laptops, water tank and pump safe!
The children greatly enjoyed the sportsday. Favourite activities were the potato race, sack race, skipping race and dancing!
Another highlight of the sportsday was that the children could drink and wash their hands afterwards with water from the borehole!
Water is also useful for teaching activities. Here we use it to do water filter activities with socks and toilet paper.
We have heard thieves near our water tank and pump at night and decided to build walls and a roof in order to protect our new water installation.
The children love the new books. They enjoy reading during the lessons and in the breaks. Learning to read is so much easier with books. It goes much faster than when the kids only read from the blackboards. The new books were donated by Beata, together with lots of materials for creativity lessons. Thanks Beata!
We greatly appreciate the donors and the 1% club to have facilitated the project of the water borehole which is now in full use within the center and the community at large.
We had suspended the project due to heavy rain around the country. Many houses were flooded and roads were impassable. Now you can have a glimpse of the tank which is full of water to the capacity. It contains 2300 liters of water.
The re-enforcement pillars as you can see in the photos are strong and solid.
We appreciate the donors once again and also marketer Mr. Rik and each and everyone who recommended the project. We sincerely thank all these people who have shown real love and care for our children.
We have reached water! Clean water is coming out of the borehole and is filling our jerry cans. This will be a day to remember!
Water at last! Unbelievable! The villagers did not want to see a drop of water being wasted. They made sure they filled each and every container they had. It was a great day for everybody.
We are now continuing with the plumbing work and water tank.
We have rented a drilling machine and started drilling the well for Cecil Kids! The whole neighbourhood has come to see the machine and everybody is very excited about the prospect of having a nearby water source soon. We hope to be finished in two weeks time.
We have just finished the new ceiling which we could make thanks to donations on Betterplace! We want to thank all donors very much for this big improvement to the school!
We will now continue with drilling the water borehole for which we received donations on 1%club.
Wonderful news! 1%club has finally forwarded our donations. We received 321,768 Kenyan shillings today! Now we can start the work for the borehole! We will start drilling right after the elections on the 4th of March. We are very, very grateful to all the people who contributed to this project! Thank you very much!
All the children and teachers of Cecil Kids wish our sponsors and friends all over the world a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! We are very grateful for everything you are doing to support our school. We had a great Christmas celebration at Cecil Kids and are looking forward to starting the new school year in January.
Fantastic news! The borehole project has been funded completely! Today we again received a number of donations on 1%club including a very large anonymous donation. In total 2888 euro has been donated by 192 donors. This means that we can now definitely realize the project and make sure that soon there will be water at Cecil Kids! Everybody at Cecil Kids is very excited and they can’t wait to see the water coming out of the taps! Thanks to everybody who contributed to the project for making this possible!
Today we had a discussion in class with as topic “importance of water”. Christopher in KG3 (year 3 of kindergarten) said “for drinking”, John said “washing hands”, Ravasco said “to wait in line at tap”, Fadhili said “cooking and washing”. We praised the children for their good answers and asked how often they wash themselves. Almost all wash only in the evenings. We asked them why and they said “Not enough water to wash in mornings. Even at school is not enough water, teacher.” Then they asked “Is it true that we get a well?” We told them “Soon! Soon we will get a well!”.
